The 2020 Arneis is a stunner! This wine has a light color and has notes of white florals and citrus with complex undertones of wet stone and chalk. The minerality is mouthwatering and keeps this wine refreshing with a long-lasting finish.
The Arneis used in this wine is from Vina del Sol Vineyard in the cool Petaluma Gap on Adobe Road at the base of Sonoma Mountain. It is on clay loam soils that provide plenty of nutrition and hold good amounts of water to produce strong vines with healthy vigor. The fruit is very late ripening, picked in October and having great balance, displaying perfect ripeness at low sugar levels and brimming with flavors due to the cool winds and fog present in this area.
The grapes were hand-picked and whole-cluster-pressed directly to the tank to capture the full fruit flavors. After two days the juice was racked off the heavy solids that had settled out and moved to a fermentation tank where it was inoculated with an aromatic yeast strain for fermentation to capture the pure fruit and freshness of the variety. The temperature of the fermentation peaked at 55F and took four weeks to complete. Once dry it was racked and stored in stainless steel tanks to retain freshness until it was bottled in January 2021.
