Club Price: $22.40

Our 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of ripe blackberry and plum, intertwined with mocha and cassis nuances. On the palate are flavors of dark berry and dried herb with a touch of oak. Plump, drying tannins enhance an elegant mouthfeel and a long rich finish.

Campbell Vineyard is located in the little town of Knightsen in Contra Costa County. The vineyard was planted nearly 20 years ago into the old sand dunes that cover the area. During the day it gets very hot and reflected sunlight from the white sand ensures that the grapes ripen uniformly and with excellent tannin concentration. At night the cool breeze from the nearby delta ensures that flavors are luscious and bright, and that acidity is retained.

Grapes are handpicked at dawn and gently destemmed at the winery before being transferred to a closed-top fermenter for fermentation. The must pumped over three times a day during peak fermentation and then pressed off once dry after about 7 days. Temperatures peaked at about 85F to achieve perfect extraction of tannin and flavor. Once the wine is pressed, it is settled for two days before being inoculated with malolactic bacteria and racking for aging. The wine gets 40% new French oak and is aged for 15 months before bottling
