This blend is our homage to Super Tuscan wines but with Barbera instead of Sangiovese providing the bright acidity. It has four late ripening Bordeaux varietals combined with a classic Italian variety in Barbera. This wine has the structure and acidity to age for a very long time.
Our 5 Sisters Ranch in Carneros is home to the grapes that make this wine. Situated on the east facing slope of Carneros in Sonoma, this Ranch is exposed to fog from the San Pablo Bay and achieve an extremely long hang-time allowing an abundance of complex flavors to develop. The vines are 25 years old and are planted in well-drained volcanic soils, producing small amounts of intense fruit.
The grapes were handpicked at first light, gently destemmed and then transferred to a closed-top tank. They underwent a natural ferment and spent two weeks on skins to achieve the perfect balance of flavor, acidity and tannin. Each lot was pressed individually and aged in French oak for 15 months. The best lots were chosen and blended before bottling.
