Lagrein is grown in the northern-most region of Italy in Trentino Alto Adige and can be a robust red wine. Our Lagrein is grown in the shadow of Black Mountain at French Camp vineyards in Paso Robles. The vineyard receives less than 11 inches of rain per year and plenty of cool air due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.
Grapes are de-stemmed with minimal crushing. Must is pumped to a temperature controlled stainless steel tank and inoculated with a pure strain of wine yeast to ensure complete and healthy fermentation. Grapes are pressed and the juice is moved to a settling tank. Within a few days, 37% of the wine is racked and moved onto new French oak for 10 months with the balance remaining in neutral cooperage. The wine is racked once more during the course of aging, then blended and bottled.
Lagrein (pronoune La-GRINE) is rich, deep and dark in color and offers a mouth-filling spicy and meaty character with a touch of chocolate.
Try our Lagrein with grilled eggplant or pork loin chops.
